It's On

Now that the Far East portion of the schedule is done taking place in the middle of the night as most of us slept, the World Baseball Classic begins in earnest today. As I've said on numerous occasions, I think this could be the birth of something very cool, something that could last a long time and become cherished, not to mention a title to be intensely sought a la soccer's World Cup. (So go fuck yourself, Steinbrenner.)

I'm sure most of you are looking forward to the USA-Mexico border war or the the tantalizing tilt between Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, but not me. I'm anxiously awaiting the clash between Canada and South Africa. Should be a barnburner.

The Australia-Italy game might be good for some shits and giggles. If the Italian baseball team plays anything like its soccer team, you can expect a lot of small ball and a 1-0 final score...and a lot of pissy dudes with cover boy looks bitching at the ump.
